Workshops

Our one day workshop events are designed to bring together delegates in a small interactive environment to discuss the latest innovations and issues within the composites industry. The workshops are delivered through a series of technical presentations from key industry and academic players with discussion sessions aimed at identifying research needs and future trends. Topics are focused on current technology developments/industry issues and workshop findings are reported to the relevant funding bodies to help guide future programmes and calls. Held around 4 times a year at the NetComposites premises in Chesterfield, UK these events aim to provide a unique forum for discussion and networking for composite professionals.

Quality in Manufacturing Fibre Reinforced Polymer Materials

30 April 2013, Chesterfield, UK

Fibre reinforced polymer composites (FRPs) are increasingly being used for different applications as a substitute for traditional materials due to multiple reasons including their long performance life and low maintenance properties. It is therefore important that manufacturers meet the two principles in quality - that the materials are fit for purpose and that they get the production right first time.

Quality techniques are dependent upon the requirements of the final product the material will be used for and liaison with customers is essential in achieving this.

Design for the End of Life of Fibre Reinforced Composite Materials

25 September 2013, Chesterfield, UK

Fibre reinforced polymers (FRPs) are increasingly being used across many sectors due to their lightweight, ease of installation, low maintenance and tailor made properties. The UK FRP industry produces around 160,000 tonnes of waste per annum, with about 70% of this coming from end-of life and 30% post-production. At present the most common disposal method for UK FRP waste is landfill. Current and impending waste management legislation will put more pressure on the industry to address the options available for dealing with FRP waste. Such waste legislation focuses on dealing with waste through the waste hierarchy and will therefore put more pressure on solving FRP waste management through recycling and reuse.

This workshop will look at the ways in which manufacturers are designing materials and components for easier deconstruction, reuse and recycling at the end of the product life.
