With a wide selection of fibres and resins available the designer must identify key parameters within the application of the material that are important to allow the material to perform as intended.

Those parameters include:

	Mechanical properties
	Physical properties
	Exposure to liquid
	Exposure to chemicals
	Exposure to temperature
	Exposure to UV
	Need for surface finish
	Corrosion protection
	Fire risk
