New Automotive Carbon Fibre Research Project Launched
The House of Composites (HOC), DTU Wind Energy, and Ph.D. Morten Rask has been granted 1.6 million Danish kroner (approximately 210.000€) by the Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation to form a 3 year industrial postdoc project entitled Mass production method for high quality composite material lightweight components.
According to HOC the two project partners will also make a combined contribution of 210.000 € to the project. They say the project is based on a HOC patent application and the aim is to be able to produce carbon fibre parts in prepreg quality at a tool cycle time of 5 minutes by an automated autoclave-like manufacturing process. Biodegradable solutions are also expected to be achievable.
Car manufactures will be invited to join the project for demonstration cases of first a low volume manual version directed towards sports and exclusive cars and then an automated high volume version for a mass producing car manufacturer.
The project is expected to start in April 2012.
